Accountability: Power, Proof and Progress

Ritu Chopra, William Hepworth and Veronica Marquez-Hepworth presented a session titled: “Through Rivers and Valleys: Recruiting, Preparing and Retaining Rural Teachers”. The presenters represented two Transition to Teacher projects that have been funded by the Transition to Teaching Program of the Office of Innovation and Improvement at the U. S. Department of Education. The two projects are a partnership with the PAR²A Center as the lead agency in collaboration with the state Department of Education, designated state agencies that offer an alternative certification program and high-need school districts; 70% of the districts served by the project are located in rural areas. The purpose of our presentation was to share the project features as well as the evaluation measures and outcomes that ensured the success of the projects in recruiting, preparing, supporting and retaining quality teachers in rural districts.
