  • A system of certification that exceeds NCLB, as expectations are universal, not limited to Title I funding, and require specified coursework
  • The general conditions necessary to become certified:
    • 36 semester hours of post-secondary education
      • Nine semester hours in reading, writing, and mathematical computations,
      • Six semester hours from the humanities, fine arts, and/or physical, biological or social sciences,
      • Three semester hours in computer literacy,
      • Three semester hours in special education,
      • Three semester hours in classroom management,
      • Three semester hours in human growth and development or psychology,
      • Nine semester hours of electives related to public instruction or its equivalent,
    • Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state approved academic assessment
    • Recommendation of the Superintendent
  • An Initial certificate is valid for one year, but a permanent certificate continues unless surrendered, suspended, or revoked.
